All volunteers must be PALS approved. This requires a yearly on-line application/reapplication. Parents and volunteers may apply on-line at SMS in the front office. SMS values volunteer assistance. We need volunteers immediately in the following areas:
- Renaissance – giving out treats on Fridays – begins second quarter
- Staff recognition
- Tutoring a single student
- Media Center – checking out books, shelving books, helping students select books
- Chaperoning field trips and events
- Writing articles for the newsletter
- Answering the phone
- Greeting guests in the reception area
- Mentoring a student
- Helping with book fairs
- Assisting with health screenings
PALS volunteer procedures:
- Sign in at the computer in the front office
- Put on your PALS name badge
- Sign out at the computer in the front office when you leave. This logs in your hours.
- Please park in a designated parking space.
- You are invited to eat lunch in our staff lounge in the cafeteria building or in the front office building lounge. Food service sells adult lunches.
- Telephones are available in the front office and the media center.
- SMS is a nonsmoking campus.
