    Welcome to SMS

    Welcome to Sarasota Middle School, home of the Panthers. We are proud of our tradition of academic excellence; our students consistently score at the highest levels county-wide and lead the state in test performance. We also are proud of our active parents and involved community, who participate in school activities and events. The middle level years are a time when students experience many developmental changes that influence how they learn. Young adolescents are at a unique and crucial stage that demands teachers who understand them and know how to teach them in ways that maximize their learning. SMS teachers possess both content knowledge and the specialized professional middle school preparation to provide the best learning opportunities for all of our students.

    At SMS, we establish a balance between the academic, physical, and social needs of middle level students. Our academically challenging and exploratory curriculum

      •holds high expectations for all students to succeed
      •meets the developmental needs of young adolescents.

           We have designed our dynamic and vibrant educational program to positively impact students by nurturing their intellectual curiosity and increasing their social responsibility.
