Sarasota Middle School is located in beautiful Sarasota County on the west coast of Florida. Our sprawling, picturesque campus has 41 acres and provides a safe and quiet learning environment for our middle schoolers.
We offer a safe school, organized instructionally to academically challenge each student. Our students are organized on small, interdisciplinary teams with highly trained and qualified teachers who provide basic skills instruction in language arts, math, science and social studies. In addition to our core subjects, we offer PE and Exploratory classes that provide students the opportunity to develop their skills and talents. Students participate off team in two of the following courses daily.
Physical Education: Most students have one period of PE daily, all year.
Exploratory Classes: Art, Family and Consumer Science, Spanish, Music Technology and Technology Applications.
Music Classes: beginning and advanced band, chorus, orchestra.
We have approximately 1150 students at Sarasota Middle School. Student teams reflect a variety of academic skills and levels. The two different team organizational structures at SMS are:
Single Grade Level: Students in grade 6, 7 or 8 learn with the same students and teachers for one year.
Multi-Grade Level: Students from grades 6, 7 AND 8 learn together with the same students and teachers.
